Dirty papers on the third rail sparked a track fire between Manhattan and Queens and shut down line 7 line service between the two boroughs, according to FDNY officials.
The rubbish-fueled blaze started on the tracks between Grand Central and Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue about 10:50 a.m.
The line was suspended in both directions between Times Square-42nd Street and Queensboro Plaza in Long Island City, the MTA said.
Riders had to use use the N and Q train instead between Times Square and Queensboro Plaza.
Firefighters from Ladder 11 put out the blaze by about 11:35 a.m., but there were still some service delays when it had been extinguished.
